Do You Not Know? Have You Not Heard?

Isaiah 40:28-31: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

During this Christmas season, we reflect on and celebrate the gift of Jesus’ birth. Many young people in our communities do not yet know and have not yet heard! According to our recent youth needs survey, some of the top areas of concern are Mental Health, Emotional Health, Spiritual Health and Recreational Activities.

In 2016 God gave us many opportunities to affect real change in these areas. Our staff received Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training through Living Works Education. This training enables us to respond quickly and effectively when a youth is suicidal or at risk of self-harm, providing meaningful emotional support and connecting them to professional services.

Our Created to Create program met emotional, spiritual and recreational needs. An average of 55 youth each month explored a variety of creative art genres while clearly learning that God has created them on purpose for a purpose: to be creative beings who worship Him! How amazing is that?

The Moss Pit is a group of students at Cobourg Collegiate Institute who meet with Christine Moss each Thursday for lunch. This year students had their spiritual needs met while learning about the truths of the Bible and how to live those truths out in their daily lives.

Our Passages program addressed mental, emotional and spiritual needs while educating and empowering youth to change their perspectives about the plight of refugees. In 2016, 641 youth participated in Passages events or presentations in Cobourg, Campbellford and Brighton. We were blessed to partner with the following agencies and churches: Brighton Youth Unlimited (YFC), East Northumberland Secondary School, Campbellford District High School, Northumberland Child Development Centre, Cobourg Alliance Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, Cobourg Community Church (Salvation Army), Northumberland Promise, Canadian Tire Cobourg, St. John Ambulance, Domino’s Pizza Cobourg and the Cobourg Police Service.

God has opened doors in the chaplaincy program for the Cobourg Cougars hockey team! What started as a few one-on-one conversations with a couple of players and team management has grow into bi-weekly chapel sessions with the entire team, ongoing prayer requests from players, invitations to meet with players throughout the week and opportunities to give Bibles to several players. God is good!

Young people desperately need to know and hear that in the midst of their uncertain and busy lives, God is everlasting, is the Creator of all, loves them and desires to strengthen them! Would you pray for our ministry, our staff and volunteers this Christmas season? Would you pray for the youth we serve?

I also encourage you to prayerfully consider financially partnering with us before Dec. 31, 2016: a year-end gift or a new or increased monthly partnership. Will you help us bring the Good News to young people? You can donate online or by contacting our office.

Have a Blessed Christmas,
